Bornholm is the first island in the world to receive the title A World Craft Region – the highest recognition in the world of arts and crafts.
Bornholm is the first region in Europe and the first island community in the world to be honored the title of World Craft Region. Since the 18th century, the island of Bornholm has been a center of industrial production for ceramic and granite, due to its rich natural resources, particularly large clay deposits, sandstone and granite.
On this tour we have curated a programme with visits to important historical craft venues and sites with local material resources, and of cause lunch in one of Bornholm's best smoke houses for smoked herring.
We recommend practical footwear for walking and an umbrella or raincoat in case of rain.
When signing up for this Tour a smoked herring from a local Smokehouse in Hasle is included. Drinks are at own costs. Any other lunch or special diets cannot be provided.
10.00 Tour starts at Pernille Bülow, Østre Kajgade 3, 3730 Nexø.
16.00 Tour ends at Hjorths Fabrik, Krystalgade 5, 3700 Rønne.
The bus tour takes us to one of the first studio glass workshop on Bornholm, Pernille Bülow, who has now changed parts of her production to recycled glass. Then we continue to Ole Christensens Sculpture Park near Olsker, where abstract granite sculptures are permanently installed in the wild forest and fields. With focus on the islands rich history for extracting raw materials the next visit takes us to the only active granite quarry in the island, a dramatic site just outside Rønne. The tour ends at Hjorths Fabrik in Rønne, with guided tour of the museum and newly renovated historic surroundings.
At each site we will be meet by local experts within contemporary and historical crafts on Bornholm.
